The Official Newspaper of the Hardrockers

The Aurum moves into the future

By Louisa Burden
Editor in Chief

As readers may have noted from our December issue, big changes are afoot with the Aurum student newspaper.

Firstly, there is a new Editor in Chief. My name is Louisa Burden and I am a junior math major from Hot Springs, South Dakota. I have been on the newspaper staff for two years. I was a writer for my first semester, and I have been a page editor for the last three semesters. In the future, I hope to further the Aurum’s reputation as a quality college newspaper and to provide content that will both inform and entertain our readers.

Secondly, and more importantly, the Aurum will be changing the way that it is published. We will be publishing fewer paper issues and putting much more content online. For a more in-depth explanation, see Assistant Editor Katrina Metty’s article entitled, “What’s new with the Aurum.”

Of course, the newspaper cannot be run without a staff. As always, we are very welcoming to any students who wish to join. We always need more writers, photographers, graphic designers, and advertising representatives. We will be holding an open house sometime soon after school starts, so keep an eye out for posters announcing the date and time. Our meetings are held every Monday at 4 p.m. in our office at the very back of SALC (in the basement of the Surbeck Center), so feel free to stop by then, or during any of the office hours that will be posted on the door.

I am very excited for the new direction the Aurum student newspaper is moving towards. As newspapers around the nation shut down, we need to preserve the existence of our newspaper by putting most of our content online instead of on paper to save money. By doing so, we will be able to keep the Aurum alive, and, with all the opportunities that going online affords, it will surely begin to grow and prosper.
