Harry Potter fans waited in line for hours to see the Midnight showing of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 1, which premiered Thursday, November 18 at 12:01 a.m. The first installment of the final book in the Harry Potter series, proved to be entertaining for Muggles everywhere.

Carmike 10 Theatre in Rapid City housed the premiere and over 800 wizards, witches and other characters flew in on their Nimbus 2001 broomsticks to watch the magic happen on screen. Carmike 10 sold out the whole building and showed HP7.1 on eight screens. “We sold out the whole building except the two auditoriums,” Paul Heib, a manager at Carmike 10, said. “We had over 800 people come to the midnight showing, almost as many as Twilight—almost.”

On the opening weekend, HP7.1 grossed over 125 million dollars, and the show definitely impressed all who went.     “We didn’t have to wait in line,” junior Becky Keilholtz said. “They let us start filling the theaters right away. We had a nice experience of people asking to take our picture or take pictures with us when we got there! We thought more people would be dressed up, but we were definitely one of the only groups of people who went all out for this premiere!”

If you are one that has watched the Harry Potter films since they began showing in 2001 you can’t give up now. It is a guarantee that you will be just as invested into the movie as ever with the intense wand battles. It is definitely a must see and I hope you will catch yourself whispering charms and hexes during the movie.
